The Mu‘tazilite school is one of the prominent Islamic philosophical traditions known for prioritizing reason over the revealed sources of the Qur’an and the Prophetic Sunnah. Unlike other theological schools such as the Ashʿarites and Māturīdites, Mu‘tazilism did not experience the same degree of historical expansion or institutional establishment. Nevertheless, certain contemporary Muslim thinkers exhibit methodological tendencies similar to those of classical Mu‘tazilism in their engagement with the Qur’an and Sunnah, giving rise to the term "Neo-Mu‘tazilism." This study aims to analyze the methodological framework of Neo-Mu‘tazilite thought in Malaysia, particularly in relation to the Qur’an and Prophetic ḥadīths. Employing a textual analysis approach, the findings indicate significant parallels between classical Mu‘tazilite and Neo-Mu‘tazilite thought—especially in their rationalist prioritization over textual sources from the Qur’an and Hadith.
